Tell us about a recent time when you felt really proud of yourself.

I recently ventured into the fashion world without any background in clothing design. About four years ago, I started my own business designing scarves. The scarves feature my original artwork digitally printed on pure Indian silk. I'll never forget how validated I felt when I was selected to exhibit in the emerging designer section at Henri Bendel. I was thrilled! Another awesome moment was when fashion blogger Man Repeller (Leandra Medine) was spotted wearing one of my scarves.

Chetna Singh What's something about you that might surprise others?

Horses are my spirit animal. I love horses and paint them regularly, but I can barely ride! I really don't know where my passion for horses came from. I didn't even grow up around horses, but now I live in an area surrounded by horse farms, so I guess me and horses were just meant to be!

Biggest insecurity or fear, and how do you manage it?

My biggest fear is losing a family member or loved one, which of course is rooted in the nature of my work in the emergency room. On the days when I see those really tough cases, like tragic accidents or unexpected critical illness, I try to be extra grateful for all that I have. I'll come home and give my kids an extra hug, and sometimes even squeeze in a teachable moment by talking to them about the cases I saw.

How do you de-stress outside of work?

If I had to choose my favorite way of relaxing it would be painting (preferably with a glass of red wine in hand). No matter how bad things get, the act of creating something lifts my spirits and helps me let go of the stresses of everyday life. Some people detox with juice cleanses, but I detox with painting! I work mostly with oils but I love mixed media too. My artwork is inspired by my Indian heritage and my love for mythology, people and travel.
